Hi

I've just bought a new iBook G4 12" (first Mac) and was looking at running the 'xcode' development tools that, according to the Apple website, are supplied with all new Panther kits and on new Macs.

My iBook came with 4 Restore disks and 3 MacOS X Install disks and I can't find xcode anywhere. I've looked inside my Application -> Installers folder and there is nothing in there at all.

I am still running the default install of Panther (as supplied on the iBook).

Does anyone with an iBook know where it is ? Do I have to download it separately from ADC ?

Thanks

developer tools are not installed by default.

I believe your 3rd Panther Disk contains the developer tools.

They are supposed to be in /Applications/Installers, but maybe Apple figures that iBook/iMac machines are being bought by consumers, not developers. Silly Apple.

Anyway, for Xcode 1.0, you can run the software restore from the backup CDs (not the panther CDs), it is an option there next to applications and classic support (and iDVD if you have a machine with a superdrive.)

Now, for newer versions of Xcode, you'll be visiting ADC.

it looks like you can download the whole thing with a free ADC membership, but it comes in 20 30MB dmgparts for some reason

I have an iBook G4 and it was under Applications > installers, you have to install it from that file.

Purportedly there is a new version of XCode coming out that has a much improved UI. I don't know if they are calling it 1.1 or 1.5. I think it is a big enough change that they are calling it 1.5. I'm not sure when it will be available. I'd guess January although part of me hopes it'll be out with 10.3.2.

Thanks all. I found it on my 3rd restore CD. It wasn't in the 'Installers' folder when I got it from Apple...seems that some do and some don't. Strange.

Anyway, thanks again....all good.
