Hi,

I was attempting to create an icon using Pic2Icon. I'm on Panther (10.3.1) It seems that Pic2Icon does not show the finished icon. So I'm just asking where does Pic2Icon store the files it presumebly is making ? Does Pic2Icon work at all on Panther ?

yes, it works. i just used it two minutes ago.

and it doesn't "store" the icon, it just creates a custom icon for the image file it is used on.

But, and maybe I'm stupid, after dragging a PNG image to the well - it takes 2 seconds or so to make my icon. But I can't find this icon anywere. I'm not sure I quite understood your post :s I would assume that the program saved/created the icon to the desktop making it available there for me to copy and paste.

The icon is stored in the picture file itself. so if you view the pictures as icons then the thumbnail is there and the finder does not have to generate it.

I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

Pic2Icon is only meant change this:

to this:

... NOT to extract an icon from a file. There are tools that do what you want (Icon Composer which comes with the apple developer tools) or Icon Grabber or you can even copy a file's icon directly from its "Get info" window and paste it into another application that can display it (such as Preview). But Pic2Icon isn't the proper tool for what you want to do.

Not sure if you can use the jag tools, but you can download Xcode free from Apples developer site (connect.apple.com)
