Hi,

My girlfriend is trying to set up a system where she can work on her AutoCAD documents from her Windows system at work on a Mac at home.

I realize that Autodesk hasn't decided to port AutoCAD to OS X yet, but are there any OS X programs that can let her open and work on documents that were created in AutoCAD 2000 for Windows, and then save them in a format that the Windows AutoCAD can read?

I don't know if any of the other Mac CAD programs can do it, or if the latest Mac version of AutoCAD I can find (version 12?) is too old to handle AutoCAD 2000 files.

Any insight or guidance?

Thanks!

i found this page after doing a quick google. you also might want to check out the rest of that site for info.

i've been doing some work recently in AutoCAD at school, and have found using Virtual PC, Win 98, and AutoCAD 2000 to be pretty usable, and i'm on a G4 450. sure, it's a bit sluggish when rendering 3-d stuff, but other than that, it's really not that bad.

DXF/DWG are the standard formats for CAD drawings. You could export that out of AutoCAD and use Vectorworks on the Mac to read them.
