I am looking for a good alternative to AutoCAD on the Mac. Does anybody know which application is the best?
Does AutoCAD have good performances under Virtual PC?
Thanks.

I can't offer any comments, but there is a website dedicated to architects, CAD and the Mac called Architosh
You might get more detailed info there if no-one here can help.

Depends what you mean by "equivalent."
There is no AutoCad on Mac, the last version was an extremely buggy r.12. There are constant rumors about it being ported to OS X, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
That being said, there are some options.
If you are willing to run an older version of AutoCad, say, r.14, then the performance under Virtual PC is acceptable. Should be interesting to see if the performance upticks with the new release of Virtual PC next year, on say a G5. I run r.14 under VPC and I find it OK, with the caveat that VPC has some screen redraw problems for me -- the smart cursor doesn't always change.
As for OS X native software, VectorWorks is fairly well regarded. It's a different approach, however, than vanilla AutoCad -- VW works best when you use parametric objects.
I find VW useful for mock-ups, but stick to AutoCad for production drawings. So it is with what you first learn.
HTH.

A lot of architects use VectorWorks, but AutoCAD should come to the Mac sooner or later..

I bought Vectorworks for my PowerBook G4 17" after a 6 year run with AutoCAD. I bought the training CDs and though I'm not as proficient with it yet, it is an outstanding app that has so much more to offer than AutoCAD. Granted, if you are used to the autocad interface, it will take a while to get used to the new way of "thinking" in VW, but it's worth it. I've started to use vectorworks for my school projects. sure, it's a bit slower with the learning curve, but the end result is worth it (i can finally use my Powerbook for everything now).
running autocad is Virtual PC is just not up to snuff.
