I live in a dorm on campus but I have my own NAT router (since I have three/four computers plugged in at any given time). Everyone in my dorm shares music over iTunes, but I can't take part because iTunes only looks on my own subnet. I opened up the Rendezvous port on the router pointing to my main machine, hoping that people could see my music and I could see theirs. Unfortunately, this has not had any effect.

Is there a way to get iTunes to look outside my immediate subnet and browse in the next subnet level? I was thinking of finding a way to trick iTunes so it looks at everything my external IP's class C, so for instance it would look for machines in 128.253.122.xyz rather than 192.168.0.xyz...

Any advice?

Thanks!

Mike

Your best bet would be to get a dumb switch or hub (one that doesn't do any routing), since that would allow you to use multiple computers but not be on your own subnet.

The reason I had to go with the NAT router approach is because my dorm is low on IP's. Also it's a good security measure against the Windows virus/worm of the week and hackers.
