When I use Safari on pages with form or submit buttons I very often get the above error.

This is despite being able to access other pages fine. Using Explorer or Netscape I can access these form pages OK.

I am using a 2 way satellite connection (Direcway) so I am wondering if a time lag issue is the cause somehow?

Im using Safari 1.1.1 on OS 10.3.1

It's not your connection, it's something Safari doesn't like about those pages.
You can use Safari's built-in bug reporter to let Apple know about this problem and use another browser for those pages meanwhile.

Hi Bill,

I don't think so in this case as its really almost all submit pages at random times. Even very popular sites like ETRADE and Hotmail where I'd be pretty certain Apple would have already fixed the problem.

When I checked that it were always the same submit pages without randomness. for example it never heppens here in MacNN but always on other pages and the problem seems to be new. However, I don't use Safari as my primary browser, but I think the more feedback Apple gets the sooner it gets fixed.

Hmmmm. I have Direcway SRS and have the same problem. Anyone else out there with a normal connection experiencing this problem?

It happens with Safari v1.1 and 1.2 on OS 10.3.2

I see this error often (maybe 1 in 25 pages I load) and it is very frustrating. I haven't noticed it being related to pages with forms, in particular. Anyone else get this and, more importantly, does anyone know what it really means? I've done some digging at Google and haven't come up with much.

Also, v1.2 and you STILL can't tab to a pop-up list? or am I missing a setting or keystroke?

I'm running Safari 1.2 and IE 5.2, OSX 10.3.2 and a Direcway DW6000 system. I'm not getting the errors as described but at times I do experience increasing long lags. Sometime pages won't even load. I suspect the time of day and bandwidth traffic play a large part. AIM works fine, downloads reasonably fast, Fetch FTP uploads- stinky slow!

Have you checked settings, DNS addresses etc. Also, try disabling any firewall software to see if that affects performance.

Hughes Tech Support try as they do, are not helpful when it comes to Mac OS and DW. After going thru at least 2 layers of "advanced tech support" you may connect with a techie who knows what a Mac is. It's unfortunately just the way the world is.

There is a site you may wish to visit: http://www.copperhead.cc
They may offer a better insight and perhaps a solution.

That solution worked (most of the time) until Tiger. Now, in 10.4.1, I am getting this message on EVERY invocation of Software Update. *&^@#$*! (Yes, I'm a DirecWay user.)

I found a workaround to the "Software Update" flavor of this problem on another board:

From your home folder, open the folder Libraries/Caches/com.Apple.SoftwareUpdate/00/14. Drag all the files in there to the trash and empty it.

That's it. Now Software Update will work, at least once. You WILL have to do this continually, but at least it will work.

I also use direcway and get the bad server response, seemingly at random. I found that emptying the cache (from the Safari menu) and clearing the history (from the History menu) works.

Oh, help. Has anyone found an answer to this? I, too, use HughesNet (formerly Direcway) DW6000, Mac OS X 10.3.9, Safari 1.3.2, and get the "bad server response" whenever I try to access my HughesNet account. As soon as I input the username and password, I get this response. Advanced tech support with HughesNet isn't helpful -- tells me it's my Mac settings. Only workaround that seems to have resolved the issue is downloading Firefox browser...but Safari OUGHT to work.

Why the crap did you revive a 3 year old thread?!

It means the server is screwed up I believe.
