I am having major problems with Safari on my new iBook G4 running 10.3.1. After a short time of using it, all new pages I load get hung on "contacting whatever.com." Even opening the start page has the problem, and my start page is a local HTML file in my Library. It just sits on "loading..." and never loads. I have to quit Safari and relaunch it for it to work, and a few page loads later, it gets stuck.
I started out using the base install that comes on the iBook and then tried reinstalling from the Panther CDs and both result in the same problem. This happens when using AirPort or when on an ethernet connection. I have not tried a dial up connection, but I don't think it's the network.
I think Safari only opens 4 connections. If you have 4 downloads going, for example, you cannot load any web pages. You have to stop one to get pages to load. Well, maybe Safari is not closing any of its connections and that's why I'm having a problem.
I am using OmniWeb now but I wish I could use Safari. I don't know why this would happen. I have tried resetting Safari, reinstalling the OS, using new Libraries, and nothing seems to help. Any ideas?
I have never had this problem before. My old iBook worked fine, Safari still works great on my B&W, and the eMac back home. It's just since I got this new iBook G4 that this problem has started, and it has been happening ever since I got it.
