I've recently taken to playing the chess game included in OS X. I told my wife about it & she wants to play. She has a Pismo running OS 9. I thought that chess was included in 9, but I don't have it on her laptop. Before I go & reinstall the system software, can someone confirm or deny for me that OS 9 includes a chess game.

Thanks,

OS 9 did NOT include a chess game, unless your system was bundled with something like Chessmaster 3000 or such.

I know you weren't specifically asking for recommendations, but when I spent most of my time in 9, I used this fine chess game--it's free:

Works in Classic, too, if I remember correctly.

I would also recommend going to chessclub.com and playing over the Internet. They have a couple of Mac interfaces you can download from their web site. Once you've joined and get a rating, it's easy to find opponents who are roughly equal to you in strength. Much more fun than playing against a computer or someone much stronger or weaker than you.
