I was wondering if there exists a disk-cleaner for osx. like cleansweep or regcleaner for windows.

I think there might be something bundled in the Norton SystemWorks/Utilities suites...but not for certain...

However, I know of this one for sure:

Omni DiskSweeper

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Don't use Norton!

Since we don't have anything remotely like the Registry, we really don't need a disk cleaner. All you're really doing is looking for the orphan files, which don't harm anything anyway.

Technically, yes. But most of them are only 4K, so it'll take a lot of them to fill up your hard drive.

It's pretty easy to just go through ~/Library/Preferences/ manually and delete the files that you no longer have apps for. If in doubt, just leave it.

OmniDiskSweeper works well for what it does. But it's purpose is to locate large files that are using up space. It doesn't search for orphan preference files.
