When I open up a copy of a message that I've sent in Mail, it shows my user icon in the header section. Does this get sent out with my mail, or is it only local on my machine? Although it's a very adorable picture of Stewie from Family Guy it doesn't quite seem apropos for emails that I might be sending to professors....

That probably is the picture you have set in your address book for your "me" card. That image will not be send with outgoing emails.

However, if you set a photo for outgoings emails in your dotMac account (if you have one), and the receiver uses Mail, it will show (but that one, not the one from the Address Book).

Yes, it made perfect sense. Though I never specifically set that as my picture in Address Book, though I assume it copied it over from my user prefs. Thanks!
