Tonight, on two separate computers, iTunes is crashing (quiting, without so much as a dialog box) when attempting to access CD track information via Gracenote (or whatever the name of the service Apple uses). I'm not talkin' the iTMS, but the track/artist/composer online database.

Example, I pop in a music CD - any standard store-bought music CD - and if iTunes attempts to access the online track database, it'll uncerimoneously quit. No CD, or if disconnected from the network, iTunes will work fine.

I've seen this behavior on two computers this evening; one is my iBook and the other is my sister's PBG4.

Can anyone confirm a similar crash with iTunes?

Must be that the CDDB is down.
The "workaround" is to launch iTunes without an audio CD in the drive and disable Connect To Internet When Needed preference. You won't get track names, but it wont crash when a CD is inserted.

Don't know if the problem lies with the Gracenote CDDB or with iTunes; I'd guess the former, since iTunes used to work fine.
