I would love to video chat with some far away friends and with my family, but it seems impossible.

Everytime I try to video/audioconference, it says either that my friend did not respond or accept the invitation. Which is of course false And if I receive an invitation, it says the connexion failed or something like that. I think it has to do with ports but I am a bit lost.

I hope you can help me. It seems everybody can videoconference except me

My config :
- dual G4 867 Mac OS 10.3.1 & PowerBook G4 12" 10.3.1
- Airport connection (for both)
- Sony DV cam PC100

it would be helpful if you posted the configurations of the people you're trying to chat with too.

Yeah, my sister does have that kind of problem once a while on her 1.25 GHz silver mirrored bay G4.. Later on, she found out the problem with the connection is her router. She had to restart her router and G4 and it works out fine sometimes.. depends on router's mood...

She'll have someone to fix her router connections sometime soon.

Maybe it could be your (or your friend's) firewall?

Try having both yourself and your friend turn the firewalls off temporarily, and see if it works then. If it does, one of you needs to make some changes to the firewall settings.

I don't think my friend has a problem because he chats to many people using video and audio without a problem.

I use airport, not a router (is Airport a router ?), could it be the cause ?

Thanks for your help

Apparently, Apple is aware that iChat has problems with some networking configurations using routers and certain ISPs and/or cable and DSL modems.

I have a client with a ADSL connection and he can't initiate iChat audio chats with either a Linksys or Netgear router.

If he manually cycles the Netgear router (unplugging it for a few seconds), then he can use audio chat for a while until it craps out.

Yes, Airport is a router. How old is it? You should call Apple and try to get past the first level of tech support. Tell them you can't get iChat to work through your Airport router.

But first, trying opening the ports as outlined in this Apple article, "Chat AV: How to Use With a Firewall or NAT Router":
