I hate these threads but here you are..

"The image appears to show iTunes prominently showing off a new section, a Mixing Table targeted at DJs and DJ wannabes. You can select two songs to play at the same time, and use the equaliser to, say, use the bass beat from one and the lyrics from the other (if you are skilled enough). In a technique borrowed from Soundtrack, iTunes seems to be able to adjust the pitch and playback speed. You can either type the speed or pitch in, use the sliders, or--and this is a bit of speculation here--use the tap button (which is blank) if you're bad with numbers."

It looks plausible (well more than that iBrary app a long time ago) but the display at the top and iTMS icon have different colourings to the curretn program.

Not that I disagree but what makes you so sure?

I hope they do change the yellow info window to blue though. Looks much better.

Well, 141 beats per second is absurd. 141 beats per minute would be much closer.

It's supposed to be a mixer but how do you mix two songs when there isn't a slider that lets you change the balance between song 1 and song 2 ? Or do you have to let iTunes control the fade-in and out of each song ? Seams pretty useless and fake to me. If Apple decides to add a mixer I hope they make a better one...

Reasons why the screenshot is probably fake:

1) Apple doesn't allow any of their apps to be bigger than 800x600.

2) The BPS/BPM slip.

3) The record button wouldn't be circular, it would be one of those rectangular toggle buttons like those to the right of it.

I just discussed this with a friend who works for Apple, and he said that Apple programmers are not allowed to make an app that won't be fully functional on an 800x600 display. He used the Panther Server apps as an example, they all run on 800x600 displays. (obviously FCP, Soundtrack, etc. are exceptions).

natan, iMovie is not functional at 800x600.

Hit the nail on the head. Check out the enlarged photo and look at the supposed "record" button. There's no way that could get through Apple Design...

i don't think Apple would turn a consumer mp3 player into a DJ mixer. that sounds like a Soundtrack stuff.

so you must be saying there is something wrong with green because apple got rid of it when they transitioned their hardware to whites and grays?

You're right actually, translucent colours are hugely out of style now with computers, all the copy cats have even stopped.

Do you want a computer with leg warmers and blue eye shadow? Nothin' wrong with those!

there is a big difference between being out of style and being sucky. stripes were not sucky, nor were colored computers. they just went out of style.

Hmm, that too.

Anyway, I thought I'd seen things right before some Photoshop inspections, but I don't know. The design feels like cheese to begin with, but I'll post my pictorial response anyhow. Maybe I need new glasses. I swore I was making out the outlines in the artifacts of the buttons that would have been repositioned in PS. Meh.

I don't see how you a DJ can use this app, you have to fade out song 1 with a small slider and at the same time you have to fade in song 2. This is a better fake then before but still bad...

I'm a amateur DJ myself, I sometimes have my iMac with me as a back up ( for when somebody requests a song I don't have on CD with me ) but I don't see how I can use this app to replace something like Traktor DJ or a real mixing table...

All I know is the first screenshot is a fake.

Notice how the NSTableView header is blue aqua, while the open close etc widgets are graphite. When you are in iTunes with graphite, the header is also graphite, like the SpyMac pic.

The Spymac photo looks more credible - and I'd love to see those little eject icons for iPods and CDs in source view, in the real product.

Nothing looks perfect during development, so I think this is either the real deal or someone has a lot of time on their hands

Eye eye captain!

Anywho, I remember those "It is fake" play by plays when the slot loading iMac pict were released along with the mirror drive doors towers.

Everyone has lots of "evidence" of obvious photoshop work for those picts

Not to mention the G5's. NO WAY could apple ever make a computer with a 1000MHz bus or they would own the market overnight! You guys kill me!

Fake.

- The scrollbar arrows overlap the table header
- The arrow next to the Mixing Table in the source column is out of alignment with the other eject buttons
- In the left table, the arrow in the Song Name table column header indicates that the songs should be sorted A-Z with A's at the top. But this isn't the case - the list is sorted Z-A.

Not to mention the iCal calendar button at the bottom.

?

This particular screenshot IS fake; there are things that aren't MAYBE photoshopped, but DEFINITELY altered with a photo-editing application. Whether Apple enhances iTunes in a similar way (adding a mixing feature) or not is yet to be seen, but it most definitely won't look just like the screenshot you posted.

Yeah, and in the list of playlists and such Apple doesn't let you sort that list yet in those pics its a mess.

The logic being how could an iPod appear BEFORE librarys that were already there?

Also the mixing icon just doesn't fit with the general style.

Those cows won't know what hit 'em. They won't know what hit them even after it hits them, because they're cows.

HEY HEY!!!!!!

Do you want to eat my sock? Do you want to my sock?
I thought not. So, i will continue to marinate my sock for myself, and you will consider my feelings a little more.

No, it is OK, he didn't mean it, he was just joking. It is hard to detect sarcasm on the internet.

NO! He wants the sock, and he will hurt me, he was not joking, he was being mean. Very very mean.

It's not a NSTableView.

MindFad, Nice work pointing out the cut and paste stuff with the brushed metal.

I would love this in iTunes5, but i rather have it sync to my turntables like traktor....where iTunes 5 cannot compete--control your mp3s on turntables baby!

interesting mock-up, but let's stop speculating over obvious shiet.

Maybe you're right. I hope so:

The sorting thing still bugs me though...
But maybe it IS just a bug

Edit: Looking at the preferences window, it looks pretty fake. The "Mixing" icon is off center and the store icon is still green. The highlight on the calendar button looks pretty bad.

I remember people, including myself, picked apart leaked shots of Panther saying Apple would never release anything like that.

The pictures were real and I've stopped trying to put screenshots under a microscope.

Personally, if the pics are real I find the feature useless but then I'm not big into music; it's nice for passing time while I'm in a car or exercising though :-P
