anyone know how i can keep creation dates, etc, attached to my photos as i export them from iPhoto? i just imported large numbers into iView and realize that they all have creation dates of today, rather than when i took the photos.
here's what i did:
in iPhoto, i chose 'export' and exported them to my iview folder where i then ran iView, created a catalog and imported them.
any help would be appreciated. i also tried a drag and drop from iPhoto to iView and found the same problem.

Try perhaps going to import in iView Pro, and browsing the the iPhoto Library folder, inside your pictures folder. That way, you aren't creating any duplicates on the way. If that doesn't work, I'd say you're stuffed.
Good luck!

The creation dates for the files might get reset at import time, or when moving between file systems.
Fortunately most cameras embed the capture time into EXIF data in the image, and that data can then be used to set the creation date of the file.
Atleast PhotoToolCM is supposed to do just that. Possibly GraphicConverter and other utilities can, too.
Hope it helps,
J

Lol, my camera clock used to be set to 'whatever' for a long time. Then I went traveling with a few friends, who also had digital cameras.
Hence, the tip of the day:
Make sure all your and your friends' cameras are synchronized - multi-camera slideshows make much more sense later.

I have the same problem. I have tons of pictures dated some time in 1999 that were really in mid-2000. The import dates are essentially correct, but the EXIF dates are totally wrong. Is there any program to do the opposite, and copy the import date into the EXIF date?

It seems a simple feature to implement and there obviously seems to be some need for it, too.
Try dropping a line to the authors of PhotoToolCM and GraphicConverter to see if they'd like to include it.
Or better yet, see if someone is looking for a simple real-life programming challenge in the Developer Forum here.
And of course, extensive Googling might reveal an existing product, too. My quick search didn't.

Just a quick bump of a nearly year old discussion...
PhotoToolCM 1.4, released in April 2004, adds the ability to edit the EXIF date. After doing so, you'll need to use its "Change File Dates to EXIF Date" command to get the Date Modified date to match the EXIF Date.

Thanks for the update,
I found out my phone camera doesn't add exif data to the pics, so this could save the day (and I wouldn't have to reprogram all those iPhoto Smart Albums).
