I'm having problems importing footage from my camcorder. I hook it up through my firewire cable and hit import. It starts out jumpy and splits the clips several times then it eventually stops. This is especially fustrating because on a previous computer with OS9 it worked fine. With Panther and iMovie 3 it doesn't work with my computer (1st Gen 17" Powerbook G4, 1GB, 1GHZ) or my wifes (12" iBook G4, 640MB, 800Mhz). I have a Sony DCR-TRV8 Camcorder, which on the Apple website it says that it is fully compatible with iMovie. If you have any feedback it would be highly appreciated. I'm trying to make a Christmas DVD for my family. Thank you in advance!

I really have no words of wisdom, but I am wondering if anything is different besides the computers. Or is it just the operating system that's different. In other words, what I'm trying to get at, badly, is what exactly has changed. Is it a different version of Imovie? And could it be the firewire cable itself?

I've had video not import too awfully well -- now that I think about it it's been to the Powerbook, and not my desktop.

But - I have no solution for you. (Just didn't want you to think no one cared!)

You might want to look on the Apple discussion boards, too.

For me, the OSX incarnation of iMovie is a prime example of Apple losing the plot. iMovie 3 collapses on me all the time, the slow motion feature doesn't work at all, sound and video are out of sync, it stutters on my iMac DV. It's a complete disaster. It used to be the jewel of Mac OS, now I'm embarassed to have anyone see me using it. Apple really need to fix this one!

None of which answers your question. Perhaps try using a different piece of software to import and see if it isn't another iMovie bug you're experiencing. I would hazard a guess it's probably iMovie that is at fault here but you might check the firewire cable and your camera.
