Does anyone know how to rescan iTunes folders and have it detect files that have been deleted? (As opposed to just finding them by double clicking each file ... kind of hard with over 3000+ tracks)

I usually just do a "select all" from the edit menu and then clear everything out. Then I select "add to library" from the file menu and let it rescan my iTunes library folder.

The problem is that the ratings get erased, do they not?

You could enable the script menu, there's a remove deleted tracks script in there.

I do believe you are correct. It also looses the # of times something has been played. Don't believe I'll be using that method anymore.

Worse ... the playlists go blank as well. Rats.

King Cob, does this scripts menu exist in the Windows version?
(I'm using the Windows version with my iPod for the moment)

There's no need to clear the Library before re-adding. Just select the parent folder of all your songs when you use "Add to library..." It will add all the songs not currently in the library and ignore all the songs that already are.

Does it remove songs that were deleted though. (Which was the original problem.)

No. I misunderstood the original problem. I thought you meant restoring deleted entries in the library, not removing entries that refer to deleted files.
