Have I prevented my friend from using from using her World Book Encyclopedia?
I CCC-cloned her iBook 600 (which suffered the dreaded dead video problem) to a new iBook 900, and then I upgraded it to OS X.3.
However, there is an extra World Book 2003 Media CD that the laptop came with. It says the software to access it is already installed. I assume this means that it was part of the Software Restore CD. Is this true?
I tried Pacifist and all it sees is a single 1 GB SoftwareRestore.app inside the SoftwareRestore.pkg.

The Software Restore app is used to access the restore images hidden on the CD. You can install the restore app and then use it to restore what you want or you can manually extract the images. The images are at "/Volumes/Name of CD/.images/"

Thx.
So basically you're telling me:
1) Run Pacifist
2) Extract the SoftwareRestore.app
3) Run the SoftwareRestore.app
4) It will allow me install the software one by one?
(All I need is that World Book app.)

No need for Pacifist. Just run the package installer. I'm not sure if the Restore app will allow you to just install one app. It varies from Pro to Consumer machines and has changed over the years. Another glitch you may run into is that the Restore CD/DVDs will detect that machine you're using it on. If it doesn't match, it won't run. In that case, your best bet is to extract the image from the location I told you above.

It's the right machine so that's not an issue. World Book 2003 comes with her iBook 900.
I just don't want to the software restore disc to overwrite the other apps she has there now (since her machine is all Pantherized now and her restore disc is X.2).

Download TinkerTool and use it to show hidden files. Look for the .images folder on the restore CD. Copy over the correct disk image and then you can hide the hidden files again and eject the CD. Mount the image and install the software. No need to run Software Restore.
