I've been having this problem with Apple Mail the past couple of weeks... the best thing i can correlate it with is updating to 10.3.2, but I'm not sure that was it. Wondering if anyone else has seen it too, as I haven't seen complaints around here.

So here's the deal:
  • I have two IMAP-over-SSL accounts (omni and icons.cx) and two POP-over-SSL accounts (both mac.com).
  • Mail is set to check automatically every five minutes.
  • As time goes on (usually within 30-60 minutes), one or more of the accounts will get "stuck". That is, the status bar and activity monitor will show it as "connecting to mail.server.com", but the indeterminate progress bar on the activity monitor doesn't spin.
  • Once a mail-checking process gets "stuck", it can't be stopped, and Mail can't be quit. (It'll just sit there forever, "[STOPPING] connecting to...")

I thought I might have rid myself of this problem by reconstructing my user account and Mail preferences from scratch when migrating to my new PowerBook, but it just started happening again.

Anybody seen this? Found a solution? Or a workaround? Anyone? Bueller?

I see it too. I saw it once I upgraded to 10.3.2. I think 10.3.2 had some Mail updates. Looks like they introduced a bug.

The only solution I've found is to force quit Mail and relaunch.
