I've been playing with the thought of buying a PowerBook after using my co-workers 15" PowerBook for a couple weeks. I absolutely *love* OS X and the battery life compared to my Dell i8100 is amazing.
I mostly do PHP / MySQL web development projects and use Komodo for all my coding. Now, after a little over a week of searching, the best PHP IDE I can find is Eclipse with a PHP plugin, and so far I am not finding it usable for what I do, maybe I'm just spolied by Komodo.
Since Komodo is based on the Mozilla code, which has already been ported to OS X, I figured porting Komodo to run on OS X wouldn't be too difficult for ActiveState to do. I emailed the Sales Department at ActiveState and got the reply that unfortunately there were no plans to port Komodo to ActiveState, because there wasn't much customer demand for it.
So now I come to this great forum, and call to all those who do PHP (or even Perl) coding on OS X to try Komodo (on a Windows or Linux box) and if you agree that it an OS X port would be great, send a kind email to
sales@activestate.com and let them know how great Komodo is and that there is a demand for an OS X port of this great tool.
In the mean time, what other options are there for a PHP IDE besides Eclipse and those other text editors that only include Syntax Highlighting?
