I've just bought a Canon LiDE 50 scanner, and it works great (G4-400, OSX 10.2.8). I've noticed that if I scan a picture in Photoshop, it gets the standard color profile of OSX (or my computer: sRGB IEC61966-2.1), not that of the scanner. If I assign the scanner profile to the picture (without converting it) the picture looks pale and not realistic. I've set Photoshop to ask what to do with the color profile, but nothing happens whenever I scan.

What happens here? Is the color profile converted right away when transferring the picture to the computer?

If I turn on ColorSync color matching in the scan-software, the result is even worse. I have calibrated my monitor by using the standard OSX program.
