This is something that perhaps needs to be reconciled between the internet and operating systems, because it seems to be happening more and more as we transfer biffer things across the internet.

I'm getting .sit files that 'appear to have damaged content'. Now, back in my PC days, I could get winrar to try and repair them (I'm assuming it probably stripped and rebuilt the file header) Is there any way I can do this on osX?

I'd bet 5€ that the files aren't really damaged in the way that a few random bits are swapped, but that they are incomplete i.e. the download has been cut off because the remote host went down. I had this a few times and the message given is the same. Random bit swapping shouldn't really occur with TCP and even if it did, you still would need to know what parts are damaged and more importantly, what was there previously.

Good guess...that was actually the first thing I tried, but they appeeeear to be complete. Limewire was notorious for the problem you're talking about, but the files I have come from Direct Connect, which to date has never cut off a file.
