You can't boot from the default Norton's CD, because it uses an OS earlier than 10.2.6 right ? So how are you supposed to repair your disk ?
I tried making a boot disc with "Boot CD", but it doesn't work with panther...

don't let norton get it's hands on your disc, or it really will need repairing! techtool pro is the way to go with OSX.

DiskWarrior.
Unfortunately, they don't have a Panther-compatible version at the moment, so you'll have to wait for the release, but unless you absolutely need a disk utility now, it's definitely worth it. DiskWarrior is the best disk utility for OS X, bar none.

What OS does techtool use to boot from (ie: is it past 10.2.6 and therefore work with a G5)...

See the interesting Accelerate Your Mac TechTool Report: it's OS X 10.3.0, currently, so it works with the G5.
But, as booting from an OS X CD still takes a (too) long time, there's also the excellent eDrive feature...

The best thing to do with TechTool Pro is to install it. Boot from the CD and create an eDrive unless you have a secondary Drive you can create this eDrive on. then restart, fire up TechTool Pro 4 and then run your utilites from there.

How does it create a partition without initializing the hard drive ?
