Sad but true:
Scarcely pausing for breath, Vroomfondel shouted, "We DON'T demand solid facts! What we demand is the total ABSENCE of solid facts. I demand that I may or may not be Vroomfondel!"

Find somebody that has a DVD drive and hook your machine up to his in Firewire Target disk mode.

Or have them make a disk image of the iLife DVD and transfer that via external drive/iPod.

Which iMac G4 does not have a drive that can read DVD's?

I thought all FP Imacs had a least a combo drive installed.

The early low-end models didn't have the combo, just the CD-RW.

Yes, I could use my iPod... But somehow I don't like it nevertheless.

The fact was that the combo drive had a 10x or 12x CD-RW and the CD-RW only model had a 24x CD-RW. So I really didn't have a choice.

If the 1,000 loops in GarageBand are the same loops that comes with SoundTrack, they are almost 4GB in size.

Or you could get a superdrive! They are down to less than $150 bucks --

I never thought about it until I had my new G4 but DVD is incredible for backup.

So gimme the app on a cd and the loops on a seperate dvd. Shouldn't be that hard. Except for the non-intuitive installation. But they could have at least put the installer for the app on he iLife CD together with iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie.

But perhaps they have and this comment on their website is only about installing GarageBand as a whole. No one knows yet. We will see.

Is this available as an external solution, too? And: does it work with iDVD if I have it as an external Superdrive?

You can probably install GB from an external DVD, but not iDVD.
