Why doesn't iTunes have a something in the source section called 'Albums' which you can click and be shown the actual covers of the albums which you could resize ala iPhoto and then double-click an album to play it or ctrl click to choose a song?

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

WHAT?
"And Zapp Brannigan, your score qualifies you as assistant delivery boy, second class."
"Hmm. I guess I'll have to sleep my way to the top. Kif, wake me when I'm there."

hmmm not really useful to me... would take ages for me to remember how an album cover looks, and would probably just randomly flick through....

revs
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I think this is a great idea. However, I would implement it slightly. Rather than have a Source entry called "Albums", I would simply utilize the existing navigation structure in the Source column or the Library Browser. But ..... I would add a button at the bottom right of the iTunes window to toggle between the current "list" view ... and a "thumbnail" view (using the album art of course). Each track would show the Album Art as an icon along with the Track Name. Resizable and all that.

And now that I think about it, what I've described above would work for listing the various tracks in "thumbnail" view. But it would probably be nice to have a green permanent entry in the Source list to display Albums. Then the main section would only display one icon for each album as you describe. That could be useful as well.

thanks voodoo.

notes:
- double-click an album to play it - SO SIMPLE EVEN YOUR MOTHER COULD DO IT
- ctrl-click on album brings up list of songs
- switching between album cover, list view and browse view is done with the butons at the bottom
- optionally you can show album titles, artists names, and number of tracks underneath album cover. if these aren't shown than the mouse rollover gives this info
- you'll notice that the 'burn' button is top-right instead of browse, this is because browse is activated in the same way as column view in the finder
- sigur ros is playing as an indication of my love of the icelandic people
- when album view is on i have no idea how search would work

I like it idea, but people that don't have any cover art would be put out a little...

This should be an "advanced" option.

Good idea...

well, all these covers were downloaded automatically by simple freeware apps like clutter and sofa so i'm sure apple could do it

If Apple would change iTunes so that it could read album artwork from a single separate file stored in the same folder as the mp3s from the album (instead of redundantly embedded within each file), I'd be all for it.

(I guess I'd like the "read from separate file" feature regardless. )

love it.

that's seems like a very logical progression from the current interface (the finder trio of icon, list, and column, that is...)

You'd also have to have some way of designating covers for which you can't get art....

The screenshot above showing the large album covers has them at about 128 X 128 pixels, so the folder icon itself (in the finder) could store the album cover, since each album has it's own folder
