OK, so the GB requirements page states you need a g4 to use GB with all features. There is also requirement for 600mhz or better g3 to use software loops.
My question is: Will garage band run with all features enabled on pismo with g4/500 upgraded chip?
If so, then why wouldn't it run on a fast (say, 900mhz) g3? My understanding is that a 900mhz g3 will beat a 500mhz g4 even in applications that take advantage of altivec.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
btw - GB is the coolest thing I've seen for an amateur musician like myself

This is one thing I don't like about Apple, crippling software that they deem won't work on slower machines. All of the pro Apps have a script that runs to check if your Mac will meet their requirements to function, if not, then it won't install, not good. This means people who are willing to use Final Cut Pro, or Soundtrack, etc. on a G3 are basically being told to upgrade their computer, just to run a program. This doesn't happen with other high-end apps from other manufacturers, and certainly doesn't happen on the PC.

I'm happy with my G3 just now, I don't care how slow Final Cut Pro will run, I jut want to run it. Look at FCExpress 2, version 1 works fine on a 400 mhz G3, but not 2, it won't even install unless you meet the new requirements. I'd rather be the judge of what I think is acceptable usage.

I don't think anyone will know how GarageBand's features will run on a G4 500 until it's available to the public... On a side note my Pismo 900 G3 is pretty fast... Over summer I opted to get this upgrade rather than the G4 500.

I love it.
