Has anyone made a DVD using iPhoto/iDVD?

I am looking for a way to get a whole lot of photos onto a disc of some sort that can be mass-produced and given as a gift to a large group of people (200). I have about 1000 photos that I currently have up on a web site but I would like to made a nice CD or DVD. I have the pictures grouped into many galleries, each ranging from about 15 to 150 pictures. I was wondering how I could make this into something nice to distribute.

I noticed that the iDVD photo galleries only hold 30 pictures each. Does anyone know how many photos total you can fit on one disc using iDVD?

Has anyone done anything like this before?
