I want Firebird to open links I click in other apps in tabs within the current window, but it is opening new windows instead. I know the Windows version has an option to open links in the current window, and I thought it used to work in Firebird on OS X, but it doesn't now. I'm running a recent nightly.

If you don't want it to open a new window, do this:

Go to about:config
Change the "browser.always_reuse_window" attribute to "true"

Unfortunately, this won't open a new tab; it just reuses the currently open one. But I like that more than having new windows spring up all the time.
