I am thinking of trading my 12" PB SD up for a 15" PB non-SD mainly for the real estate space and then buying a external firewire DVD-R. My main reason I use my SD now is to burn Slide Show DVD's using IDVD. Does anyone know of the best DVD-Authoring Software on a Mac besides IDVD that would allow me to do the same sort of thing? Thanks for any advice!

Hey,

Well, you might check out www.lacie.com where they are shipping a multi-format DVD writer with Toast 6 bundled. I don't know but assume Toast's DVD writing abilities include slide show.

But, a more highly regarded DVD authoring program for the mac is called CaptyDVD, also sold through lacie's site. However, that is an older (1.1?) version. I emailed lacie, and they said the newer (v2.0) CaptyDVD might be ready this month. I'm waiting on a combination of that DVD burner and CaptyDVD before I buy.

My other preference would be a program from Apple where I could ship them my powerbook and they would yank out my CD/DVD reader and put in a DVD burner, so I could use iDVD. I gather they want me to buy a new machine instead, which I can't do and also buy Final Cut express/pro, video equip. etc.

Anyway, good luck to you.

MCE has a Superdrive upgrade program like that ... you might take a look to see if suits your needs.
