In iDVD 3.0.1 on my 533 Mhz G4 (upgraded Beige G3 w/ upgrades and superdrive) and it gets down to 2 minutes remaining then spits out the DVD and gives the an alert, "Errors were found during the burning process. The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer Underrun. (021, 002.)" Any idea why, it's already wasted 5 DVDs ?

only suggestions is do absolutely nothing on the Mac while it is working on a DVD. the other is try different media. contrary to what some people thing...there IS a difference of media from different companies.
one other thing is to try to make a different project. if it works fine, but the project that was bombing out keeps doing it...there may be something wrong with one of the files itself. (one of your graphics, video files, etc. sometimes things look/play fine, but their errors are exposed during the conversion process.

Well, Toast 6 didn't get m,y menu's from iDVD and when I made it from scratch it has perfect video qality in preview but when I burn the DVD there are lines all the way down, the bottom is cut off and it's too skinny. So basically, Toast 6 is a waste of $89

well i wouldnt say toast is a waste...maybe for what you wanted it for. it is a good program. ive never tried its DVD movie features though.
my luck with iDVD has been hit and miss. personally i use DVD Studio for all of my personal DVD work. iDVD is an incredibly well designed program. but, for some reason its building and burning process is rather flawed. i hope iDVD 4 is better.

Maybe the G3 Beige bottleneck is too much of a problem to iDVD to fix, and it just plain fails sending out the data to the DVD burner.

I mean, even if you upgrade the CPU, the bus speed is the same, and if I recall correctly in that machine is 66mhz.

i had thought of that too. i have never heard of anyone putting a DVD-R in a beige G3. thats why i suggested doing nothing during the final phases...to avoid bottlenecks. its so hard to pinpoint problems with iDVD since its rather hit and miss. i have a Dual G5 and ive had some projects work fine and other just completely crap out. its been this way since iDVD 1.0. hope they get the building/burning portion fixed in 4.0.

I also found out that iDVD wants 15 GB of free space on the startup disc and since the OSX partition has to be 8GB most...I don't mind too much, I'm hopefully gettin' a Dual G5 1.8 Ghz for my b-day :-D

that will be a much better machine for DVD work. my Dual 2 absolutely rox as a video workstation.
come to think of it, i have heard of others having troubles with installed Superdrives in beige machines. they just werent designed with that in mind. you would probably have similar problems if you had a PC from the same era.

WEll on the side of the box it says 733Mhz required for iDVD. That MIGHT be your problem.
