Managed to pick up Photoshop 5.5 for £15 ($10?) over Christmas. What are my upgrade options? Would I need to go to 6 before going to 7 or even CS or could I just upgrade straight to 7 or CS?

To install upgrade successfully, you will need a licensed version of Photoshop 7.0 or earlier on the same platform as this purchase. So it looks like you will be able to upgrade to CS from 5.5
Yeah no problem, you can upgrade from almost any version, from personal experience I know that you can upgrade from version 4.0 to CS... you don't even have to install version 5.5 you only need it's serial...
