I don't think it was availible in iPhoto 3 but, is there a way to protect certain pictures (from being viewed by people you don't want viewing them) in iPhoto 4?

No, not directly but if you know where your Photos are kept then you could use File Vault on them..

Just make a new library for your porn, and use iPhoto librarian or something like that to switch the libraries. Put your porn library in an encrypted disk image if you like.

That would only work if you knew that the person you didn't want seeing them would never have access to your console while you were logged in (very unlikely). I would use the encrypted disk image.

I wouldn't use iPhoto to store those type of photos.
