downloading problem

Hi all,
I recently installed speed download, and then removed it, and I think it did something to my settings leaving me not able to download anything unless I reinstall speed download. Without it I click download on a link on say Cnet and it will briefly appear to download, then switch back to the "click here to download " page. Any ideas as to the cause?

Did you use the uninstaller?

I did. It seems the uninstaller deleted the program as it should have, but didn't reset the download default. I looked in the preferences, but can't seem to find a place to correct this.
