FMP 7 is expected in February/March. My hopes are for the following:

Support for OpenType fonts.
Support for mixed rich text, i.e., fields containing mixed italic, bold, and roman type, plus such things as smart quotes, em- and en-dashes, etc.
Better, more stable container fields for images.
Native Unicode support.
Significantly expanded pre-made commands with ScriptMaker.
Please add to this wish list!

 • 6. Variables in scripts (globals get unwieldy... fast)
 • 7. Actions with messages (so you can have multiple buttons that do the same thing with only a variable difference... rather than having to have a script for every button in an array)
 • 8. Support for sql (or sql-like) queries without ODBC support installed (so I can do interesting things on FileMaker Developer solutions).
 • 9. html or InterfaceBuilder like layout system. This would make expanding fields much easier to deal with on-screen. Only having things work for printout and preview hurts.
 • 10. Sub-Summeries for Browse mode. For generating reports this is a wonderful thing, but that it only works for Preview, where you can't use buttons, kills the utility for me.
 • 11. Ability to work with styled text in scripts (for me mainly removing it)

My longer term hopes are that FileMaker becomes a means of putting a face on SQL servers (PostgreSQL namely). This would improve performance and allow for some great interaction with other applications.

I would also like for the scripting language to be ripped out, and replaced with AppleScript. Since most of the hooks are already there, it would simply be changing the hooks. Oh... and the minor task of porting applescript to Win32.. details, details....
