Am I missing something obvious? How can you get an audio track into GarageBand? Or even just a piece of it. For example, if I want to sample another song and use it in a project of my own, how can I do this?
There's no import button or menu item that i can find. And dragging doesn't work either.

Drag the actual file right into the TRACKS window.

It must be a MP3, WAV, or AIFF file, and then you drag it from the Finder to the Tracks section of the window (on the left) and then it says "importing track".

Ah -- you're right. I think I was trying to drag an AAC file in before.
After a slight bit more time playing with it, it appears you can't drag protected AAC files purchased from the Music Store in there. Unfortunate, but not that surprising.

Help !!
Once i drag an mp3 into the GarageBand window the importing window appears and imports the track fully.
However i cant seem to find the track anywhere in the GB windows? Where is the file disappearing to?
(i have tried various mp3 files and still no results)

This has happened to me many times as well. I drag an MP3 to the track window, it imports and then never appears in the track window. But when I use a WAV file it works fine.
