There is a website with some photography "how-to's" in Flash format that I would like to save to my Powerbook so I can look at them when I am not able to connect to the internet.

I cannot figure out how to save them.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I think the only method might be:

View source code and find the URLs of the embedded Flashs. They might be partial in which case you'd have to combine them with the URL of the page. Paste those URLs into the URL field and load the Flash directly without the HTML. Due to a bug this doesn't work in Safari so you'll have to use some other browser like Camino. Then save them with the browser's Save command in the File menu.

Thanks for the information. I viewed the source and am having trouble figuring out what the URL for the imbedded flash file is.

Would you be willing to look at it and direct me to the correct file?

The website is:
http://www.photoworkshop.com/canon/index.html

I want to save the lessons that are listed there.

Thank you.

Another thing:

I can view the source of the flash file when I click on a specific lesson but I still cannot figure out which is the flash file itself.

Thank you.

Ah... Well it looks like, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the page is programmed with a javascript to load the flash files on a layer.... So in that case I have no freaking clue how to save them. Normally you be able to see a reference to a .swf file in the code, then you could download that file. But this page is different, sorry I can't help. Maybe someone else knows.

Thank you very much for the links.

Now for another stupid question: How do I play them? They download and when I double-click, QT tries to open them and says that it can't open them. I know I have Macromedia Flash Player installed somewhere but cannot figure out how to access it.

Thanks again,
Denise

Make sure you have the stand-alone Flash player. It's different than the Flash player plug-in. Once you have it just set all .swf files to open in that by defualt.

Now I feel really stupid.

When I install the flash player from the link you provided it says it installing it for all browsers.

I cannot find a standalone player anywhere on my computer (using search)

What am I doing wrong? I even tried a get info on the swf file to see if I could find the flash player that way and I cannot.

Sorry for the endless questions/help needed.

Drag them into an empty browser window (but as I said, due to that bug not one of Safari).

Thank you very much. That worked.

I can't figure out how to stop QT from trying to open them but oh well, at least I can view them without an internet connection.

Select one in the Finder, then choose File->Get Info. The Get Info dialog has an open with pane. From the popup (which should have QuickTime selected) chose Own program... and navigate to let's say Camino (or whatever browser you like to use). The navigation dialog has a popup that you have to switch from "Suggested programs" to "All programs" so that you can select Camino. Then select Camino as program to open the file with. In the Get Info dialog Open with pane click the Change All... button to change all Flash files from QuickTIme to Camino (or whatever browser you have chosen).

That is what I figured I needed to do but I was not sure about what program to open them with.

Is there a stand alone flash player that works like QT player?

BTW, I was able to get Safari to open the files by dropping them onto an open browser window.

Thank you to everyone for all the help.

Yes. I thought the link I psted was to that, but I guess it was just the plug-in. I don't know if it's available for public download, but I know it comes with the full version of Flash MX.
