So, I got garageband this afternoon, and I was playing around with the software guitars. So, some crappy 90s song came on the radio and I decided I'd try to play it in the GB. Results of the first part are here, (I don't feel like making the rest) - this is all me plunking in software instruments on my keyboard.
http://homepage.mac.com/awaspaas/.Music/gb.m4a
I'd be interested in hearing what some of the first songs coming out of you people sound like!

Wow, groovy! Makes me wish I had some musical talent.
(the end is a little abrupt maybe)

Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

definitely keep them coming. Do ones created all with Garageband count too for those of use who are not as Muscially talented?
Those 2 so far are GREAT!

I wish I had some musical talent. I've tried learning to play violin, guitar, and piano (twice). No good. I'm missing the "ability to learn an instrument" gene from my DNA.
Funny thing is, I have an excellent ear otherwise - I can tell when an instrument is out of tune or when the pitch of a sound/recording is wrong. Was very useful back in the day of high-end cassette recorders (I could tell when my deck was running too slowly, even by just tiny increments).
And, I've been able to make some cool riffs with Soundtrack (use it for subtle background music for my iMovies), so GarageBand will seem familiar. But still, can't play nor can I read music.

I've only put together some tunes in Soundtrack, but hopefully will have some Garageband tunes cranked out soon. I haven't gotten a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter for my guitar yet, and my keyboard hasn't come in yet.

Cadaver, take the perfect pitch test at ucsf:
http://perfectpitch.ucsf.edu/
anyway, i just hooked up my shure sm57/audio buddy/ua-30 setup and tried to lay down one of the charlier etudes on trumpet. and sounded awful. (that is, i sounded bad. the setup worked technically ok.) no, the world will never hear it, my first garageband recording.

I have never played an instrument in my life before I got GarageBand yesterday. I have also never used an audio program such as GarageBand before.
That song I posted is what I created after 1 hour of using GB, and so all I have to say is you just need a good ear to be able to create good music in GB. But I also must say that I don't think the song I posted is any good at all.
I've been creating other songs too since I posted that one, I've now got a total of 3 complete songs and about 2 unfinished. Damn this is addicting.

These were made using ONLY the built-in loops...
For those into clubbin, enjoy

From Mike Pinkterton's (Camino developer) blog...
Here's my ditty, called IME (for Initial Machine Experiments). It's nothing special, I did it just for fun and didn't obsess about every note or bend I missed. You get what you pay for.

Nice work guys! Are the melody lines for your tracks composed yourself, or made up of loops?

My 30-second masterpiece, albeit a complete ripoff from some song whose name I don't even know, contains no loops.

It's 'What I Am' by Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians. One-hit wonders.
Made by your computer keyboard? Or the musical kind?
Great job either way.

The musical kind Kurzweil SP-76.
And thanks for the song title. I actually got it pretty close for just hearing it on the radio!

Here are my first three GarageBand creations. Bear in mind, these were created entirely with loops, so you real musicians can go ahead and bite me.
Here they are:
Bubba Bach
Bungle in the Jungle
Maserati
Hope you enjoy them.

You can do some interesting things with those loops. You have me dying to play with GB...

Hmm, cool. Best. Thread. Evar.
Sounds like GarageBand is very simple to use. Makes me wish I knew how to play guitar... I'd have the sickest death metal/metalcore band... If only I could do vocals...
Honestly, though, I really dig the idea of this thread.

Here's a hip hop "loop" instrumental with some Asian flavor added. Again, I used only built-in loops:
Saucy Beats (5 MB, 4:18)
And if you didn't check my earlier post, you're sleepin'!
I made two other tracks, but I'm running out of room on my iDisk!

Here's my first GB track, using the slide guitar loops. They remind me of something you'd hear from an old recording, so I intentionally made the quality as such. I brought down the EQ quite a bit, converted the tracks to mono, and even added a "hiss" to it to give it that "old timey" feel. Kind of silly, but hey, it's late.

I posted this in the Software Forums, but all the Garageband action seems to be over here. Is there any way to install Garageband onto a mac with no oem dvd? I have access to macs that comply, but my home mac has no dvd drive. Wither hence? Surely it can be done, somehow.

It is with great pride that I present to you The Best Song Evar!!. This is the first time I ever tried music software so yes it is very lame. It was made just using the loops that come with GB and it sounds the same the whole song. I'm not sure what kind of music it is but don't laugh too hard.
edit: For some reason, Safari was downloading the song as an html file so I put it back up as a zip file.

Ok so Im not into the type of thing I created here but I think it would work perfectly for an "Apple wannabe company commercial"- thats the best description I can think of.
http://idisk.mac.com/swizcore/Public/Test.m4a
Ok so why when I click my link does it load as code instead of the song like other peoples links?

Keep it up! I'm really liking some of these, I didn't get a chance to hear them all, I kind of skipped around. I really like yours Busemann.
What's the best Garageband site out there? I know like 15 came out but I think most of them sucked... either had a horrible look or were too hard to navigate... which defeats the purpose of the app. I don't think the site should just be thrown up using phpnuke or something like that. http://www.icalshare.com/ is an excellent example although I don't really use iCal.

I got to play around with GarageBand for the last two hours of work on Friday (and it really was work. I was product testing for one of the departments I support). Anyways, I threw this together. I've been working on more, too. I was excited to get GarageBand, but I've never been this excited about a piece of software after getting it.

For whatever reason, Safari likes to save .m4a as .mpga

Try this. There's a discussion in another thread though, about how something like the MobilePre will give your guitar more power.
