Whenever I select British lead in GarageBand, there is so much static from my iMic that it is totally unusable. There is not even a guitar plugged in. I plan on mic'ing my amp anyway, but I may want to use the virtual amps sometimes. Has anyone else seen this?

Have you tried plugging in an instrument? Often, that will take care of humming. (Often not...)

OK...multi-threads going on this...

My guitar records like I am in a cave...really bad sound. Was told a pre-amp would fix it. Apple sells one for $149
