Alternative to iDVD 4?

I've tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully to burn a multi-track slideshow with iDVD. I always get the gnomic statement "there was a problem with multiplexing." I've been on Apple Support's discussion forum and it seems many people are having problems burning with iDVD. (Some suggest dual processor G5s are the ones having the problems - I have a dual 1.6, running Panther.)

I've all but given up on iDVD (I'll see if an upgrade does what it's advertised to do). In the meantime, is there another program that can create separately tracked slide shows and can burn a home-made movie? (I know of Toast 6 but am disappointed that they only knock $20 off for previous customers.) Does Toast 5 have the ability to create separately-tracked movies and slide shows?

Thanks,
Bob

there are no cheap alternatives for the mac i believe. CaptyDVD and DVD Studio Pro (what I prefer) are your best options. i love iDVD for everything but the most important thing...success in burning. apple has never seemed to get this right on iDVD. it is very hit and miss. CaptyDVD's interface is similar to iDVD, but doesn't offer you near as many features...but does allow longer movies and external burner support.
Toast 5 doesnt support those I believe. Not even sure about 6. I have Toast 6, but since i primarily use DVDSP i havn't even tried Toast's DVD capabilities.

I think the best alternative to iDVD 4 for burning slideshows is:

http://www.ulead.com/dps_mac/runme.htm

I think it's even better than iDVD for creating slideshows because it will also burn CDs.

Sizzle is a free and open-source dvd authoring app (you burn the image from Disk Utility), but I don't know if it supports slide shows

I love this forum! Thanks for all the suggestions. I paid for the dvd picture show and it took 15 minutes to burn a slide show that took iDVD almost as long to encode the pictures before clunking out at the burn phase.

Thanks again. I'll also try sizzle.
BTW, I inadvertantly typed a .6 instead of .8, so I should have written dual 1.8.
