I'm trying to compress my movie and DVD to back them up the file size is about 9 gigs. I used Stuffit to compress it but it only compresses it to about 7 gigs. I was wondering would make it a .DMG make it any smaller. If not I'll just back it up to 2 DVD's

video files are pretty heavily and expertly compressed already. a generic compression algorithm like stuffit or zip won't give you much further advantage with specialized files like that.

If you're UNIX saavy, you can try bzip2, which works really well (better than gzip, at least). do a 'man bzip2' from the terminal.
