Anybody know if quality shareware developer Panic is still in business? They made Audion amongst other things. The last thing I heard they were in the process of developing Audion 4, but I keep trying to access their site to no avail. I want to download Desktastic too, their pointless bun fun drawing-on-the-desktop application. All the sites that have it for download link directly to panic.com, but cannot connect. They also do not seem to be answering eMails.

Anybody know what's up?

Thanks.

They're still around. A buddy is doing some beta work for them right now, so I know they have some things planned. Heck, they could be updating their web site with the new app. I'm sure the site will be up in a bit.

Had me worried, I didn't want Transmit to die already!

Heh, competition for Konfab? Sure looks like it!

The application functions similar to the Mac OS X dock application, allowing users to drag-and-drop predesigned capsules to and from a docking station that floats transparently on the desktop. Capsules displaying current weather conditions, most recent e-mails, currently playing iTunes tracks, upcoming iCal appointments, laptop battery strength and available disk space are just a few of the widgets expected to debut with the application
But they will be backed up by IF, I just can't wait to see this!

I think people would want my konfabulator-like program more:

The App would be a way to script the background picture to show information:

1. Display a stock price with a background color to correspond if the stock went up (green) or down (red).

2. Show the current iTunes song with album artwork.

3. Maybe change the desktop picture (or color) depending on the time of day.

4. Download images from a gallery and show them on the desktop.

It is sort of like Konfabulator for just the Desktop Background. It is easier, though, because there would be no need to design a GUI. Maybe it could use CSS and XML to arrange stuff? I am not a programmer, but I am an idea person, and I would love to see this idea come to life.

Is anyone else interested in this?

Panic just accepted my $ for Transmit, which I finally purchased today. I hope they're not going anywhere

Edit: just read the AppleInsider post about Panic's upcoming Usenet Newsgroup reader. Thank god! I've been getting tired of using the clunky-old OS X ports of bad OS 9 apps (the whole YA-Newsreader line). Count me in.

I think you can do that now:

I seem to remember a program which sets a webpage as your background. You could use that and make a PHP page that would display whatever you like.

Use some nice CSS and a reload in the header and you'd be away.

ah here we go:

Ha! it turns out it was written by Steven Frank - who is one of the Panic Guys.
