I tried to install iLife '04 on my ibook 466 clamshell Special Edition (OS X.3.2, 320MB)
I get a message that it can not be installed on my computer because of the resolution options. Highest option on this model has always been 800 x 600. When currently using iPhoto I just bypass the message and run iPhoto without optimal resolution and have not had any problems. I don't need to install imovie or garage on this computer so had planned a custom installation. Can't get there. Cannot get past the message. I called Applecare and they are checking into a way around this and are supposed to get back to me in a few days. Has anyone else successfully installed iPhoto and iTunes on this machine?
I suggested they just bundle a new ibook with iLife and it would solve my problem. I did get a chuckle!

Oh that's sad that Apple doesn't support 800x600 any more.

If it's just an installation issue, you could try to install iPhoto with Pacifist.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

You could try running the installer package for the applications you want to use, instead of the overall iLife '04 installer. This helps with some system requirements problems apparently. I'm not sure where the individual installers are on the iLife discs, so someone else may need to chime in on that note.

But, from the Apple iLife '04 System Requirements:
Display with at least 1024-by-768-pixel resolution

So Apple did warn you, you may find it difficult to install them. You could possibly try Pacifist to extract the applications from the installer packages, if all else fails.

On the install disk, control click on the install alias on the disc and select show original location, all the install pkgs are there.

Too tired to attempt tonight but I will take a look at that over the weekend. Do you see any risk to trying this? Could I really mess up anything? I know I could but is it likely???!!

Nope, it won't miss up anything. Once you do the first step it'll be back to the regular interface you are accustomed to using even.

Just put in the CD, click on the alias "Install", then File Menu - Show Original, double click on "iPhoto.mpkg".

I just checked iPhoto 4 at 800x600 and it does run (it doesn't even warn you about the resolution like it did before).

Hope this helps!

Thank you. That worked perfectly. Now, do I do the same thing to install it on my external firewire hard drive?

Yeah, it should work. The 1024x768 requirement is there because of iMovie. It will refuse to run at a lower resolution.

I can't seem to get it to install on my external OWC Mercury Firewire hard Drive. When given the location choice. I click on the OWC but I cannot get any further. Thanks in advance for any instructions.
