I'm thinking about stopping by the Apple Store today to pick up iLife '04. I'm not much of a musician, so I think I will create few to no recordings with GarageBand, at least in the near term. But I'd like to use it as an excuse to get my guitar back out and start playing. Can I just plug my guitar in and play it through some of the amp sounds, without recording? I'd rather not deal with the deleting the recorded tracks, etc. I just want to sit down and have a little fun. Maybe that's a stupid question, but it crossed my mind this morning.

Yes you can. Just create a real instrument track, select the amp and tweak it. In the track info set monitoring to «on» and there you go.
