I've done a quick search and it's come up a blank - sorry if I've missed something.

In the keynote, Jobs previewed the photos before importing into iPhoto, he could chose which to import and rotate etc...

I can't seem to find this option, when I click 'import' I get the same behaviour as iPhoto2 - i.e. it just imports the lot without asking nowt!

Cheers

I am not 100% sure, but I believe what he was showing were the new slideshow features.
In the slideshow you have the option to enable a menu to rotate, rate, or trash the photos as they are displayed.
The idea being import as always, then run the slideshow to rate, rotate, and trash as necessary.

Or even slightly better. Have a smart playlist that shows only the last import. Then run the slideshow. It's very simple and convenient.

For downloading some pictures, you can use the Image Capture app instead.

It's based on the same 'image capture' engine as iPhoto, but has different features, laid out in a kinda crude way... look in "Customize Toolbar" for the icon size slider.

In the end, you'll still have to drag the pics to iPhoto, if you use it for managing your collections.

I'm hoping Apple keeps developing Image Capture as a more 'pro' version of iPhoto, while providing more seamless integration with iPhoto's library, for example.

Thanks for the suggestions/hints! Think I'll play around with some smart playlists as the 'last roll' function has been showing some funky-monkey behaviour..
