I have a 733 Quicksilver Powermac and I don't see an audio port in. There is one for speakers, one for headphones, but none for a mic. That seems weird considering most other macs have them. Will one double as the other or is there something I can buy to get an audio in port? I was thinking of a PCI card to put in one of the slots.

have a look at the stuff from M-Audio - they make a wide range of pci cards (price and features) and provide pretty good support too.

the imic will do fine for basic stuff and is a decent cheap solution. if you want something a bit more "pro" then look at the m-audio stuff - you can get cards with analog and digital in/out and midi in/out as well.....i guess it depends on exactly what you plan on doing with the gear.

I'll second (third?) the iMic. Works with GarageBand just fine.

Of course, there's going to be a little bit more noise than if you used some nice hardware from Digidesign or someone similar, but it hasn't really been that bothersome for me.
