First, before you flame me, I tried to search this forum for a long time, getting lots of error messages about a "slight problem," so if this was discussed in detail not too long ago, sorry.

Anyway, we just got a new iBook, and it came with "Office X Test Drive" on it. There's nothing I could find in Help, the documents that came with the iBook, or anything else that tells me how much it would cost to "purchase Office."

Since we got the iBook as a student purchase, will there be a student discount for the Office X software?

My school has an even better price than that, but they have trouble getting the software in. And CompUSA has a deal that's good to the end of the month for Office X with VirtualPC for $139. The problem is that I don't know whether or not we can get the special student deal by buying the software through the Test Drive, since there's NO documentation about this anywhere that I can find.

You can't buy the software through the Test Drive...the TD needs to be un-installed first and then you need to install off the retail CD...

The CompUSA deal sounds great, go for it!

I'm not sure what you mean by "buying the software through the test drive."

The test drive is free to download for anybody - it's not like buying a third of office or anything.

That CompUSA deal sounds fantastic, and I think you get a free upgrade to the next version (previewed at MWSF) if you buy after a certain date - I'd check that before you buy.

When you open a Word document, the Test Drive opens a window that says "would you like to purchase Office X?" Since there is no mention of how, or how much, we've never clicked that button.

The school is supposed to have some copies of Office X on Monday. If they don't, we're headed to CompUSA. Thanks for the tip about uninstalling TD-I found an item on Apple's Knowledge Base about that too. If you don't, installing the full product doesn't work.

Thanks all.
