I scan in a photo via vuescan.
Vuescan opens the pic in Preview and I see it is a tiff.
I plan on opening the photo in PS Elements to straighten and crop it.
Eventually I probably will save it in iPhoto as a jpeg.

Should I open the file in PS Elems and save it as a jpeg in there. OR Should I save as a jpeg in Preview and then open it in PS Elements.

Is one better than the other?

I've done both and do not find there is a difference. If you are going to edit it just save it from PS Elements after you are done fixing the image.

You have more options when saving from Photoshop Elements (more convenient control over size/quality, interlacing etc.)
