Have just upgraded to Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro. Needed the ability to do forms. What I don't need are the menus that now show up in all of the Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, etc). for creating and emailing PDF's. It's an ugly menu (!) and I would rather use the built in OS X PDF print function.

The question is how do I disable these menus. I have tried to uncheck a number of the plug-ins in the Get Info box for AA 6.0, but no luck.

Can someone help me with this?

Right/control click on the MS Word toolbar itself (not on the buttons but the toolbar area surround them). You can then un-check the option to show the adobe PDF buttons.

Locate the following files: Library>Application Support>Adobe>Acrobat>AcroENUProSelfHeal.xml and AcroENUDistSelfHeal.xml.

Edit them as follows: change

<key>install</key>
<string>YES</string>
<key>type</key>
<string>PDFMaker</string>

to

<key>install</key>
<string>NO</string>
<key>type</key>
<string>PDFMaker</string>

Remove the PDFmaker files from the Office Startup folder and you should be ready to go...

helv
Always on the run...

Here's how I finally removed the menus:

1. Removed the PDFMakerLib file from /Microsoft Office X folder.
2. Removed the PDFMaker files from the /Microsoft Office X/Office/Startup/Word, Excel, & Powerpoint folders (one file in each).
3. Launched Acrobat 6.0. Got a Dialogue Box asking me if I wanted to Repair PDFMakerLib.
Here's the key sequence:

a. I unchecked PDFMakerLib.
b. I then clicked CONTINUE (not Cancel).

Acrobat then launched, and when I subsequently launched Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, the menus were gone. When I tried any other combination (checking PDFMaker Lib and/or clicking Cancel), Acrobat recreated the files.

I tried Control-Clicking Word Menu bar. It does the same thing as just clicking on the close button. It takes the menu away for the session, but if I shut down Word, and then open it again, the menu is back. Same for PPt and Excel.

Thanks for all your help with this.
