I just got an Edirol UM-1x MIDI to USB convertor for my Yamaha keyboard. I installed the most recent drivers from the website.
The problem is the input levels. Garageband recognizes the keyboard, but the levels are so low when recording. I have to smash the keys just to get the level meters to get half way up.

Now I can edit the instruments by increasing the settings and it works for some instruments (ie piano, guitar), but not with others (ie bass). Also the sound is more distorted by doing this. This could all be solved if I could increase the levels while recording.

Any suggestions?
