I recently purchased a LiteOn 451 DVD(+/-)RW drive. After some firmware tweakage it's an 851. The 851 is capable of writing dvd+r @ 8x on 4x media. Only problem is that every burning app on the mac I've tried limits your write speed to the max speed of the media. X-CD-Roast looked promising but doesn't have much +r or panther support.

Any way to force Toast to grow some balls and write at 8x? Every other freeware utility I've tried relies on apple's discburning framework which is nutless as well.
