Okay, I want to go to let's say, the MacNN forums.

i type in http://fo

and the first thing that SHOULD come up is the original link, http://forums.macnn.com

INSTEAD

some random link comes up such as

http://forums.macnn.com/newthread.ph...amp;forumid=82

For example.

Why the hell does it do this!?!??!

This is so fuggin annoying. It's such a b!tch always having to delete everything after .com.

I don't know what the autofill algorithm is but I'm guessing it's based partly on your most RECENT address (in testing it mine was exactly the one in your example - the forum I last clicked in my memu bar).

Uh... well, no. I just tried it my using http://forums.macnn.com After going to it, it did NOT become the first option.

Anyway, it's not too annoying to me because I just just the down arrow on keyboard to get into the list of options... then the uparrow and it quickly zips up to the top item - which was naturally... http://forums.macnn.com

I agree that the shortest address should be the first one to appear. The longer ones should be in the drop down list.

The shortened form isn't even showing for me...

SO i have to manually go and click on where I have to delete.

yeah, it's the URL you visit the most, it's actually pretty handy if you know how it works

Nope that isn't it.

I try to go to versiontracker.com but the first thing that pops up when i type in http://www.vers is some random link that i went to once.

i must have typed in www.versiontracker.com like five times to get it to work but nope.

You are unequivocally correct. It works exactly as you describe. this is a flaw. Even though this is the case, this thread will quickly be populated with replies to the contrary.

If you accidentally throw a bookmark in somewhere it uses those before everything too.

The behaviour I've noticed for Safari on my iBook is that it is displaying the most-frequently-used URL. For example, I visit the forums daily but I always hit the iBooks forum the most. Everytime I type in the first few words of the URL, Safari auto-completes it to the iBook forum.

It generally shows the most-visited URL with whatever letters you started with, but not all the time. I'd suggest just using LaunchBar, then you don't have to worry about it at all.
